Week 5

        My goals were somewhat similar in completing my degree program however, I was a little more specific in stating that I wanted to get all A’s to finish my degree.  I was also similar in that I said that I wanted to become a software developer but I also made some more specific future goals of becoming a lead developer at some point in my career.

        I really like the capstone project on the PetRecs Web Application as I like web development and I could see myself really enjoying creating a Web Application.  A Web Application I could see my team building would be a new Resource Management Program.  I work at a High School District and we use a mix of many programs that do different things but also similar things.  They do not connect or interact with each other and I would love to make an application that addresses this issue.  

        Another project I liked was SimpliFit, an iOS application that let users decide on workouts and track their progress.  I would also be interested in creating an iOS App as I would love to learn more about iOS development.  My iOS App idea would be to create an augmented reality overlay for chess learning.  This may be out of my realm of figuring out but that is my idea for now.

        A third project idea would be a Mobile or Web Application that creates an interface for tutors and students to interact.  They would create an account input their free time designated and the subjects they can tutor in or need help in.  Then the application would automatically set up times based on the details listed above.  

        This week, we came up with some capstone ideas and prepared to start making a video presentation for the end of this class.  We also worked more on our argumentative essays and the proper way to write them.  We learned how to identify logical fallacies and loaded words and how this can steer an argument.  I am currently unsure if an internship is the correct route for myself but I am considering it.  I currently work full-time at the High School my son attends and where my daughters will attend.  The more I have thought about an internship, the more I have thought it might be a good idea, just depends on compensation.

Software Engineering - Week 8

This is the final week of my Software Engineering class and I thoroughly enjoyed working on the projects I was presented with.  The five most important things I learned in the class are Selenium automated testing, Spring Boot Framework, Authentication, Stories and Epics, and React. I chose these because they have the most real-world applications and interest me. I have seen these things listed in job descriptions and knew they were used in many applications. Using Selenium to automate testing is a nice skill to have as it allows you to automate web browser interactions, making it easier to test web applications and have repeatable tests when updates are released. Spring Boot framework allows you to build web applications more quickly and with less code and is fairly simple to implement. Computer Networks - Week 8

This is the final week of my computer networking class, and it's been a journey of learning and discovery. This week, we focused on some security implementation, learning about firewalls and intrusion detection systems. I learned about the fundamentals of firewalls, which act as a protective barrier between internal networks and the outside world. Firewalls help with filtering network traffic and preventing unauthorized access. We also learned about intrusion detection systems (IDS), which are designed to detect and respond to potential threats or attacks within a network.  At the link layer, we focused on wireless security, recognizing the importance of protecting wireless networks from unauthorized access. I learned about encryption methods, authentication mechanisms, and best practices for securing wireless networks.
