Week 2

This week I learned more about study skills and how it boils down to why you want to do it, which for some might be about getting their degree and for others might be grade-based working for that A.  For me, it is both as I am striving to keep all A’s as I progress through this program.  That is one of the goals I have set for myself and I am planning to stick to it.

When it comes to effective study skills, I have found many that are beneficial to me when it comes to online courses.  The value of a schedule is my number one as I find it helps me to have my study sessions scheduled on my calendar so I know I can’t schedule things during those blocks of time.  How to use my time is another skill I find I have done a good job with.  I feel confident making priorities and sticking to them and knocking out the top priorities first.  I also usually do well with Taking Notes and I use Google Docs to do so.  This has allowed me to take screenshots of tutoring sessions and create a searchable document, also using titles to have a table of contents.  Surveying, Questioning, Listening is something that I believe I need to work on to take more effective notes.  Gathering Materials Before You Write is also something I need to work on as it’s not in my nature to do so.  But writing the outline is something that did help with that aspect.  Revising my schedule is something I haven’t been great at either but I usually will do that on the fly if things come up that impact my schedule.

After watching the Project Management Videos, I feel the project manager is in charge of making sure everything goes smoothly and the project does not fail.  The project manager must make sure to keep things on time, on budget, and on task to make sure the deliverables are completed.  Using Gantt Chart’s can help make a visual of progress and what needs to be completed at what time.

These are my thoughts after watching the capstone Projects:

I watched the library delivery system and I thought it was a good idea but I didn’t feel like it was explained very well on what technology they used and how they overcame their problems.

I also watched the PetRecs Website that allowed users to store their pet’s medical info.  I thought they did a good job of saying what technology they used.  Maybe they aren’t given enough time as I wished we got a more detailed look of some of the coding, etc.  Overall their final product was amazing and I loved the UX and Design!

I also watched the EZ Dashboard where they made database info automatically populate visual representations.  I liked what they did and the final product turned out great, however, I again wanted to see under the hood more.
